The 2019 ACADIA conference will take place in Austin, Texas. Austin is a vibrant city that thrives on the slogan, “Keep Austin Weird.” The city is fast-growing and though on pace to become the next Silicon Valley, it still supports individual expression and a diverse set of views. Other than Willie Nelson and BBQ, the city is perhaps best known for the annual SXSW festival, which brings leaders in the fields of design, media, film, music, sports, and education in the spring. In addition to being one of the top food cities in America, Austin is also home to the only Formula 1 race track in the United States (conveniently held the weekend after ACADIA - Nov 1-3, for those who would like to stick around). The University of Texas at Austin campus is located just north of downtown. The architecture school is within walking distance of hotels and restaurants and only a short scooter/Uber/Lyft/bus ride to the cities best neighborhoods. Look to South Congress, East Austin, and Downtown for alternative lodging, food, and nightlife options.
The School of Architecture, as one of the oldest in the United States, has a long legacy at the forefront of architectural education in this country and throughout the world. This legacy is also manifest in the historic buildings housing our school that were designed and planned by luminaries such as Paul Phillipe Cret and Cass Gilbert nearly a century ago, and it continues today in our Robotics laboratory and our recently completed state-of-the art digital teaching facilities.
The AT&T Hotel and Conference Center is located on The University of Texas at Austin Campus and is the closest hotel to the school and conference venues.

Austin has plenty of hotels and AirBnB options. Please note that many of these are not within walking distance of the conference venues, but Uber, Lyft, and pubic buses are readily available throughout the city.
Workshops will be held in Goldsmith Hall, the newly renovated digital teaching space on the 5th floor of the West Mall Building, or in the digital fabrication lab in Sutton Hall. The 3 buildings are adjacent to each other and make up The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture.
The easiest way to get to and from the airport is via Uber, Lyft, or Taxi. Car services run frequently in Austin day and night. The airport is a 20 minute ride from The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture and 15 minutes from downtown. We recommend you leave additional time during the weekdays between 7-9am and 4-6pm when traffic is the heaviest.
